What does a school council do?

A school council is a formal group of pupils who act as representatives of their classmates in discussing school issues with the staff and leadership of the school. They will help to make decisions about how the school is run and take on projects that support the children’s learning and development, such as organising charity events, representing the school at outside events, or ensuring the school is environmentally friendly. A school council can provide a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions, and have their views taken into account in decisions that impact upon them.

There are a number of events already in the school calendar that the school council will help to organise and promote to the school and wider community (when appropriate), such as the MacMillan Cake sale, Children in Need, Christian Aid Week and participating in World Environment Day.

What does your child have to do in this role?

There will be regular meetings that your child should attend so that they can discuss and complete any activities required with the School Council leader. The representatives will then give feedback to their classes about what has been discussed in the meeting.

The meetings will take place at the Junior School at 8am on the following dates:

Friday 20th September 2024

Friday 18th October 2024

Friday 8th November 2024

Friday 6th December 2024

Friday 10th January 2024

Friday 7th February 2024

Friday 7th March 2024

Friday 25th April 2024

Friday 23rd May 2024

Friday 20th June 2024

Friday 18th July 2024

Mrs Prebble will walk the children from the infant classes back to the Infant School at the end of the meeting in time for the beginning of the school day.

She is looking forward to working with the school council this year and developing the pupil voice of the school.
